5120 pickup question
Recently got the 5120 which I'm very happy with. (Apart from the immediately intermittent selector switch!) Played next to my 73 tele - it's very quiet. The tele has a Seymour Duncan at the neck and the original neck p/u in the middle position; 5 way switch and phase pull on volume knob. I reckon the Gretsch would be improved by putting some Jones' in (is that where the expression 'Jonesing' for something comes from?) but I'm not sure. The bumph I've read says the 5120 ships with 2 single coil De Armonds, but mine has 'dual coil' Gretch pups - what do you guys know about these boys? Should they do the job? I'll post some pics when I get home, but any advice /ideas would be great. Cheers

I just placed an order today for my 5120. I personally think that the stock pickups sound bad, but that's just my take on it. From what I understand, the 5120 stock pickups are PAF-style humbuckers; they just have the Gretsch engraved pickup covers. If you order them, be sure to order with EM-2 Mounting option. I ordered a TV classic for the neck and TV classic plus for the bridge (more midrange and less high). Hope this helps. Mark

Thanks Mark - that was the option I was considering, but what about the English Mount? The holes look the same as the bezels already on my guitar, but the EM bezels look like plastic! Can't I use the existing bezels with the classics?

Hello, It seems like the pickups are not the same size (stock 5120 vs tv classic). If you use the existing bezels, you will probably have a gap. Mark

Thanks Mark - let me/us know how they look and sound when you fit them.
