'89 Duo Jet w/ Filtertrons - TV pickup upgrade suggestions?
I have an '89 Duo Jet w/ Filtertrons. I would like to upgrade with TV Jones. I am 56 years old and want the best "classic" tone I can get. I'm guessing Classics are the obvious answer.... but I wonder if something a little more high power might be the ticket. - What does "TV" himself recommend for these guitars? - What does Billy Gibbons use in his "Billy Bo".... (this isn't necessarily the final answer for me.... it does carry some weight though).

Sounds to me like you should go for a set of TV Classics. If you want more punch maybe a classic plus in the bridge. Billy Gibbons uses a Power'tron in the neck and a Power'tron Plus in the bridge of his Billy Bo. This is a balls-out midrange sound. He's got 100's of guitars though. For that particular sound that's what he uses. A more all-around versatile choice would be the TV Classics and use a gain pedal if you want to kick it up a notch. TV himself would probably tell you the same...

I have an '89 Duo Jet w/ Filtertrons, too. And I would like to upgrade with TV Jones (me too, ). My musical referencies are Beatles. I would like to get a sound near DeArmond Dynasonic singlecoils. What about Magna'Tron? Thanks

@ Blueness: I play Beatles-stuff, and have tried out the Magnatrons - yet, they are a little bit too harsh for the Beatles-sound, i.e. they boost the hi-mids too much. Now I've put in some TV Classics, and they are great! I've put the Magnatron neck PU into my Les Paul - that's an absolute winner!

My Jet has ceramic filtertrons (I think these are the usual pickups in 1989) and I want to put the alnico ones. This is the first reason for upgrade with TV Jones. Anyway, I'm looking for the Dynas sound but I don't want to rearrange the holes of my Jet. This is why I considered to choose a pair of Magna'trons. I was thinking about a pair of TV-HT because I love single coils, but I hope Magna'trons' sound will be closer to Dynas. If you put TV Classics in your Jet, are there many differences from the original filtertrons? Thanks for your help.
