Fitting PowerTron pickups to a Gretsch G5128-57
EDIT: Sorry the title should be G6128 not G5128 I have just got the following guitar: http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/markcarline/8e06_1.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/markcarline/12a4_1.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/markcarline/b11e_1.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/markcarline/cf54_1.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/markcarline/f37f_1.jpg Its a Gretsch G6128-57 Duo Pro Jet from 1996 and currently it has the original DynaSonicTM Single-Coil Pickups and I tempted to replace them to make it more like the G6128T-TVP model as per: http://www.gretschguitars.com/gear/index.php?product=G6128T-TVP&cat1=&cat2=&q=&st=1 Can anyone tell me : 1) Exactly what kind of mounting option would work on a G6128 ??: http://www.tvjones.com/pickups/powertron.htm and also: 2) I would like to replace the wiring harness at the same time, does anyone know which one to use: http://www.tvjones.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=WIRE&keywords=all Thanks in advance ! mark

UPDATE: i think I have managed to work out that i need the "Tone Pot Harness" as per: http://www.tvjones.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=04-002 and I have seen this article which is based on an update to a newish gold electromatic pro jet so i'm not sure how much of this differs to my 1996 "G6128-57" : http://www.tvjones.com/pro-jet-instructional/index.html I also dont want to really do any major work to the body of the guitar and I am wondering if its going to be a big job as the height of the existing pickups (base to top of body) are neck = 1/2" and bridge = 5/8". I was hoping to just pop the pickups in place and the use some surrounds like these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GRETSCH-SET-OF-SILVER-PICKUP-RINGS-SURROUNDS-DUO-JET_W0QQitemZ290221924846QQihZ019QQcategoryZ2384QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 Anyone any ideas ?

I had a reply from Tv Jones: From: TV Jones <info@tvjones.com> To: MARK CARLINE <mark.carline@btinternet.com> Sent: Friday, 9 May, 2008 3:05:04 PM Subject: Re: Fitting PowerTron pickups to a Gretsch G5128-57 Mark, If you have DeArmond (Dynasonic) pickups, you will need the Dyna'tron mounting option. The Power'tron assembly may be too tall for the guitar, being that they are top mounted pickups. I suggest a TV Classic Plus bridge and Power'tron neck. The wiring harnesses are for hollow body guitars, you could get a wiring harness and unsolder some of the leads. The pots and switch will not push through the smaller cavities in the Jet. Shipping: http://www.tvjones.com/pdfs/Intl_Shipping.pdf Thank you for your interest, TV Jones So I am now looking to fit these pickups: http://www.tvjones.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=0102-052 but this links mentions: Use your existing DeArmond® or Dynasonic® pickup cover and replace with the new double-coil Power'Tron. Pictured with cover (not included). I now am wondering (as I want to resell the existing pickups) where I can buy some new chrome Dynasonic covers from that would work with these new TV Jones Powertrons ?
