GRETSCH TENNESSEAN W/HILOTRONS
I recently purchased a Gretsch Tennessee Rose model G6119-1962HT. I am thoroughly impressed with the guitar, but the Hilotron pickups are quite weak. I was expecting to see a difference in their output vs. a Strat or Tele, but WOW! They're almost non-existent! I am tempted to swap them out for a pair of TV-HT1's. Any thoughts? I'm a Beatle guy, and I'm looking for the "Ticket to Ride" and "Beatles for Sale" era tone that George Harrison got with his Gretsch Tennessean thru Vox AC30, 50, AND 100's. Many have said that these pickups are the best of the best for clarity and twang, and not be intimidated by the lower output. But won't that require more volume to drive them, which means asking the tubes to work harder, therefore producing distortion even when I don't want it?

STOCK HILOTRONS
I have decided to keep the stock Hilotrons in my new Gretsch Tennessee Rose for the time being. I'm not sure I want a pickup with more output just yet, as I am doing Bealtes covers, and George was into a cleaner guitar sound. I'm looking at VOX AC30's right now, I will make my decision on which pickup to use after I've tried it through the VOX. Looks like I'm going with the AC-30CC2X with the amazing blue Celestions.

Hey. Try a TV Classic in the bridge, and leave the stock neck Hilo.
