Hot Magna'Tron Could a Magna'Tron be wound a little hotter, and maybe head toward Tele sounding territory?

I'm curious about this too, especially after reading the post where the guy put a Magna bridge PU in the neck slot and loved it...

the magnatron is actually pretty hot already. at 8 ohms, it's actually already "hotter" than a stock tele bridge pup, which are in 6.5 - 7 ohm range. at 5 ohms, a neck maggy in a tele bridge slot.....

A Magnatron neck pu is 5k ohms resistance?
stonewall_crippen- 03-25-2008
actually I have to correct myself. the maggy neck is only 4.0 ohms. powertron neck is 5. I had to call to get all the specs for the output on all the different pickups. i dont know why the website doesn't list any of them? I would think that would be a question everyone would ask before buying a pickup, maybe not. so, to whom it may concern

tv classic/supertron

Thanks, that's interesting -- although the resistance doesn't tell the whole story at least it's some form of reference.

That info and more is in TV's catalog (downloaded from his home page), which also states "Note: DC Resistance is not an indicator of pickup output."

i have a bridge Powertron and neck Magnatron in the same guitar and i can tell you the Maggy's output is quite a bit lower. i can dial in a nice low-level crunch with the P'tron and switch to clean by just using the pickup selector to select the Maggy. i like it that way, though.
