Mangnatron Wiring I followed the instructions and the pickups wouldn't work at all. I hooked them up bass ackwards and it worked. Any known issues with this?

Which wire did you use for hot, and which was the ground?
El Gato- 01-02-2008
Ground went to lead and lead went to ground. It was the only way to get it to work. I took the guitar back to where I purchased it tonight and the guy there is a jazz guitarist who is also a TV Jones user/fan. He is going to re wire the guts and get this guitar working properly. Made in China but I still love my Gibson L5 knock off. Hopefully this will cure the problem with my V-amp2 also. :D

Got my guitar back tonight. :D Completely rewired and one new tone pot.
It sounds sweet.

Awesome dude! Really cool.
If you ever decide it's not for you, you know where to send it. :)
Pics!

Cool dude, good luck! What is this, an L5 knock off? My dad owns an old Gibson L4 from the 60's. Pretty awesome guitar!
El Gato- 01-09-2008
I had to put a cap on one of the volume pots to stop the tone drop off. All in all it sounds freaking sweet. Still waiting for my bigsby to arrive then I will post some pics. Anyhow you ask if its an L5 knockoff. I looked at a few more guitars and the best I can come up with is an epiphone emperor II w/ a gibson neck and head. The cord plug in was stamped epiphone. So I am assuming that certain epiphones and gibsons are made in seijin's chinese manufacturing plant. Sorry it took so long to get back on this but we had quite the storm up here and had no power for a few days.

colour code? yeah, so what are the wires' color codes, i.e. white=hot, et al? my maggie came with only 2 (b & w), but the 4 leads underneath (VERY kewl, tv!) were altogether diff. there were 2 green leads (1 per coil) that came out of the middle of each coil's winding, & then a white & a blue lead that came out of the last holes (or 1st?) on the mounting plate's underside, 1 for the north coil, the other for the south coil. what do these correspond to on a duncan or dimarzio, for example? i've already spliced & soldered leads (bl, r, wh, grn), & the intention is to wire it to a push/pull pot, for series & parallel. i thought this was what i had done, & the maggie (bridge) sounds awesome in the neck position, but there sure ain't much in the way of volume. my hd z-90 in the bridge is A LOT louder, & i'm finding that i have to tilt it (mag) towards 1 of the coils the get the most vol & body. that can't be right, yes? so i just want to recheck, to make sure what each lead actually represents. thanx.

The Magna'tron is not a good pickup for parallel or split wiring. The inductance is too low.
The Power'trons or a TV Classic Plus is what I recommend for 4 conductor
wiring options.
Thanks,
