New be with pickup questions
Hello I'm new here. I've been a member of Gretsch pages for a whilie but I have specific pickup questions. It seems that with pickup questions I will probably get more information here than from Gretsch or Fender. My Gretsch background is that I have three of the Proffessional series guitars and one electromatic. My three Pro series are 2005 models. One is my EE Duo Jet, two is my 05 Gold Annie, and last is my Tenny. I have always heard that Gretsch Filtertons should be fuller than single coil but yet retain that high end twang and bite of a single coil. My EE Duo Jet seems to do that. My Annie does not. It seems to be darker like say a P-90 style pickup. The Tenny has Hiflo's. I was thinking of changing my Tenny to some Filterttons. But I don't know what to get. The Hillo's of course can do the high end thing. But they are pretty weak. They will not overdrive any of tube amps on their own. You pretty much have to leave them up full all of the time too on their volume controls on the guitar as the volume drops off fast. My first question is does my EE Duo Jet have TV Jones pickups? If so what model are they? What kind of Filtertrons does my Annie have on it? If they are TV Jones pickups too is it the over tone of the full hollow body in the Annie that makes them a little Darker or What if not? I want the sound that my Duo Jet's Filtertrons get if possible. I don't expect them to be the exact same as it or there would be no point in having the other guitars. i want them to be simular but not too dark, if all of that makes any sense.
