Power'Tron or Power'Tron Plus in a Mahogany solid body? Does anyone have any personal experience with comparing a Power'Tron directly to a Power'Tron Plus in the bridge of a solid body guitar? I've listened to the clips on the site but I'm looking for opinions. The guitar that I am looking at puting these in is Mahogany with Mapleneck and Ebony Board. How about Splitting coils? Does anyone have any experience with splitting Power'Trons?
Thanks! Mike

i have not compared the powertron and the ptron plus directly, but I did use a ptron plus in my 6120 and did not like it. at all. really really muddy for my taste. good distortion, breaks up the amp like wet bread, but no distinction. especially if you burn a bunch 16th notes right in a row, just washes away. my particular guitar has always been a little muddy, so that is some of the problem, but the classics they replaced were much cleaner. saving for mags next. i like the sound clips, very bright. 8 ohm output too, so they should break up very well (pwr-trons are 5ohm neck and 7.8/8.4 ohm bridge) coil splitting has never been effective for me. though it does brighten the tone, it also thins it out quite a bit. i have had several guitars with this option, and end up never using it.

Thanks for the info! I like splitting coils and running in a series or parallel with another coil like in position 2 or 4 on a Strat. I've never liked the sound of a split Humbucker by itself either.
