Power'tron with Magna'tron I'm considering getting a Magna'tron for my Power Jet Firebird.
I love the way the Power'trons sound and want to keep the neck pickup, but the bridge isn't wowing me that much anymore.
I want something bright and twangy, but isn't thin, so I'm thinking the Magna'tron might be the pickup for me.
I'm just not sure.
Ideas? Opinions?

I think you might find the contrast between the powertron and magnatron too drastic. the maggies are SUPER bright, while not exactly "thin" sounding, when compared to a powertron they might seem thin. You might try a a classic plus. it has the same impedance (7.8k) but is alot brighter than a powertron. also you can special order (if you so wish) ANY tvjones pickup with the supertron bar magnets for a little extra money. the bar magnets very noticeably increase output because it increases the p-up inductance. this would get you right into the output range of the powertron with a much brighter tone. so theres my two cents. hope i helped a little.

Apologies if I'm too late with this, but I have this combination in my 6119.
It's fantastic.
The Powertron gives me a warm, jazzy tone, but the Magna in the bridge gives a full, twangy tone.
Middle position is excellent too.
You can here the two pups on a track on my band's myspace called "Soulfish":

I'm playing the Powertron for most of the song except for the "stabs" on the last chorus where I flip to the Magna. The other guitarist is using a Tele, but you can spot the Gretsch a mile off. :)
