Hi Rob.
Cool new clips! Thanx!
....I didn't get a Plus for my Gretsch 5120 cuz I thought with the Bridge Pup so far North on the guitar that....but shucks; that Plus sounds Really Nice!
And I love taking guitar polls! I really like seeing the results too!
....uh,....where, um,...is it?
Rich. :D

Rich ..it's right at the top ....above the first post.

Well I'll be darned! There it is!!
That's kinda subtle. I'll try to remember to look up!
Wonder if I missed any others?
...anyway.....
Although I already have the standard Classic in the bridge position, I voted for the Plus. I don't normally use just the bridge pup alone for my style of playing but normally stick with the "neck" or "both" positions, and I really liked what I heard from the new clip in the "both" setting.
With the bridge pup being so close to the neck pup, it makes it a tough choice, but if I were to it again I might very well go for the warmer Plus.
Nice new clips by the way! Thanx!
Rich.

Yeah
I too went for the Classic as well. I'll see how I like it...I'm sure it will sound great.
If I find I want a little more mid range I'll just sell the classic get the Plus...no big deal.
I'm pretty sure I made the right choice though.

OK; so this thread got me thinking.
I spent a little time paying closer attention to the relationship between Bridge and Neck yesterday and how they play together and sorta decided that I really do like the slightly brighter sound of the standard Classic at the bridge. It gave me a broader variation of tones I could play with when I went to different amp models on my modeling amps. I may not use the brigh-*test*-('") settings all that often, but in the future I may discover more songs where it could come in real handy.
I did discover something else though: While I certainly enjoyed my '65 Gent with the Gretsch Supertron/Filtertron mix, I gotta admit that these Classics on my 5120 are a whole lotsa more fun!
Part of that could well be all the variations I get with my modeling amps, but even compared with the Gretschbuckers I took off the 5120 using the same amps, I guess I would call the G'buckers more of a "One trick Pony" or something even with a bunch of different amp models and effects to play with.
.....could I change my vote to straight Classic! :?

Rich, hehe
Precisely the reason I opted for the Classics; I figured I could get more of the tonal range.
With the Classic Plus even though they sounded sweet...if you want the really bright clear sound, I'm not sure you could get it.
The Classic Plus ...if I was to put it into one word ...would be muddy ...maybe gritty ...I dunno. I'm not saying muddy in a bad way ...more like mud restling with Scarlett Johansson.
I figure...although I could be wrong...I can play with my amp or my Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer and get some fairly good tones...we'll see.
