What tone-pod to use with Hilo Trons ?
Hello there guys.... ...just a quick question here ! I would love to post my blue burst with the other beautifull TV Jones equiped guitars, but in order to do so, i need to install my Hilo Trons first. So i have a question about these pick-ups and their tone pods ! The paper work that came with them shows 500K pods in the pic, but many ohter forums, and even youtube vids recommend 250K units because of their trebble ? Can anyone point me in the right direction. Should i replace my 500's with 250's ? Many thanx Jack

I'd use the 500K's. Hollowbodies (I'm assuming that's what it's going into) are basically warm instruments, whereas something like a Strat is basically a bright instrument. Fender uses 250K with their single coils, because bright instrument+very bright pickups+bright pots=WAY too bright overall. Gibson uses 500K with their humbuckers because their instruments are generally much warmer (mahogany is soft, and warmer than the Alder/Basswood/Maple that Fender uses), and humbuckers are warmer than single coils themselves. Fender also uses .047uf capacitors, which give more bass when the knob is turned all the way down and somewhat restricts treble coming through, moreso than the .022uf caps Gibson uses (which do the opposite - they let more treble through). So on my guitars I've rewired, I use 500K pots, especially with TV Jones. That's what I'd use if I were you. I also use .022uf caps, but I like treble in my guitar, and a warm amp. But whatever you have in there already is probably fine. Long post, I know, but I hope it helps! Later dude
