Wiring thoughts on a TV Jones Esquire -project
Going over some final thoughts on my TV Jones Esquire -prjocect. Basic layout: Have succesfully restored a -71 Tele body and modified the single bridge pickup chamber for a TV Jones TV'Tron pick up. I'm using a Gotoh Humbucker bridge to fit the fullsize 'Tron. The system: My TV Jones pick up is a regular 3 conductor one, (no split option). I'd like the electronics to operate like it does on a orginal Esquire. This means one volume, one tone and a 3-way switch. In orginal Esquires the 3-way switch is meant to provide different tonal responces from one, single pick up that offers only one hot and one groundwire. Theese systems had both 1 meg and 250K volume pots. The 3 switch positions for typical 250K system is: F = Pickup wired through two 0.05 mfd capaciators and one 2.5K or a 3,3K resistor to offer a pre-set bassy sound with no tone control. M = Pickup normally wired through volume and tone controls. R = Pickup direcly wired to the output jack to provide a hotter lead sound with no tone control. The problem: I need to translate all of the above to TV Jones/Humbucker, a 500K volume control spec. It's not nessesary for the system to work exactly like a Esquire does, but it's important that i keep the straight and lovely sweet 500K humbucker TV Jones sound and get something different on switch positions 2 and 3. I will be using orange drop capacitors. The questions: Any ideas on how it would be best to wire it? How does Tv Jones sound with different -value capacitors and resistors? What are the 3 best sounds to get out of the pick up this way? Alternatives: -Should i just scrap this and get a 4 coductorwire TV Jones Pick up? Thanks
