Hello there...
I want to install some TV Classics in one of my guitars.

There's two candidates:

((1)) Early-80's Yamaha SA2000 Hollow-Body (plays beautifully)
I replaced the stock, fairly-nice humbuckers with Gibson P-94s about seven years ago.
Within weeks, I didn't like the Gibsons at all. Too hot, too muddy, too dark.
Did I change them back? Nope...

((2)) Late-80's Burny Les Paul
I have another Les Paul for traditional, hot-PAF humbucker sounds.
The Les Paul is an option only because I find them more wieldy, so I tend to grab them first.

It sure seems like TV Jones pickups go into a lot of hollow-bodies.
I guess I'm asking how the bodies would affect pickup tone.

Also, my goal isn't to mirror a certain style of music, but to have a completely different tone-color than Strats/Les Pauls.
Thanks for any guidance...

Hi Woozy

I am in the same boat as you right now !

I have a very ugly (impulse buy - don't ask) Epi LP Custom that i can not sell to save my life.
So i'm gonna keep it, and customize the Custom to a point where it will become my #1 guitar.
Re-stain the body, TV Jones, diff. tuners, and add a Bigsby.

Now, just like you, i do not want to copy anything, but i do want a pu that will complement the solid piece of Mahogany that this Custom is made from.

Right now, i am thinking about a set of Power Trons (neck & bridge), as i like a slightly darker than neutral tone - does that make sense ?
I also use Fender amps, so the darker tone might just be the prefect combonation.

Cheers
Jack

I have a TV Jones Classic in the neck position of a Telecaster - therefore solid body - and it's pure beauty. Truly, I don't think you can go wrong with these pickups, just about regardless of what you install them in!

Not that you're not entitled to your wrong opinion, or anything ;) Smile Smile

I just finished a custom-built Strat using a TV Jones Classic in the neck and a Powertron in the bridge. Hate to say it, but I'm not very impressed with the Powertron in the bridge. The Classic in the neck sounds good, and it also sounded good in the neck of my Tele. The bridge is another matter.
